Get Ya Guns Out.....

So a big trend for the past two years has been military. And no this doesn’t mean you should go down to the army surplus store and buy camo gear and a knife! This trend is all about lightweight shirts and singlets, jackets with military details, trench coats and combat boots.

Burberry Men's 2010

The trench coat was, as its name suggests, invented for trench warriors, a long coat to protect its wearer from rain and keep their entire body warm while remaining hardwearing. And while your trench coat of choice could be anything from a simple black cotton trench, a khaki woollen trench or a metallic gold trench, the key is versatility. Opt for trenches with a removable lining, this means it can be worn in more climates. Make sure the trench looks good multiple ways, loosely thrown on, belted and with the belt tied behind, the more looks you get from your trench the happier you will be. This year we are inspired by the era of war, clean cuts, functionality and the era of rationing (the GFC may be over but the aforementioned gold trench may be a bit much). As I always say, use simple colours and earthy tones, it makes it easier to create an outfit with anything from your wardrobe. Head to Pierucci and check out their black trench, if that doesn't appeal, Burberry is always a sure thing.

Balmain Homme

Military shirts can range from formal to very casual. Opting for a button up shirt without a collar creates a very dapper look when worn with a jacket. Whereas the trick for a casual look is a simple earthy or white coloured light shirt such as the ones from Balmain Homme. Also wearing a lighter shirt means you won’t overheat! Buttoned shirts with epulets in earthy tones are also amazing!

Combat boots are back and it surprises me how many ugly boots come out of the woodwork during the weekend. DO NOT wear actual military tactical boots, they are far too bulky. Doc Martins may be celebrating some ridiculous anniversary this year but they are not combat boots, they are the shoes worn by punk bands in the 80's and if you like to have some sturdy shoes for your walk from the fridge back to your game of World of War craft then by all means wear those bad boys!
Combat boots should be sleek, and the en vogue way to wear them is for them to be fully laced up with skinny jeans, but I still think wearing them loose is a great look. by far the best military boots I’ve seen have been from Wayne cooper, they come in two colours and for less than $200, they are something that is easily attainable (from Myer in the city and possibly from Wayne Cooper in Claremont).
